About digthru.to
digthru.to answers a question every kid has asked: if you dug a hole straight down, where would you come out? Drop a pin anywhere on Earth and we’ll draw a tunnel through the center of the planet to its antipode, the exact opposite point. Then we tell you what’s there and what you’d dig through on the way.
Where the data comes from
- Map tiles: OpenFreeMap, using OpenStreetMap data.
- Country borders, oceans and cities: Natural Earth (public domain).
- US state borders: US Census Bureau, via us-atlas.
- Address search: Photon by Komoot, using OpenStreetMap data.
- Flags and emoji in share images: Twemoji by Twitter and contributors,CC BY 4.0. Fonts: Fredoka and Nunito, under theSIL Open Font License.
How accurate are the percentages? They’re calculated by sampling each country on a grid and checking what lies opposite each point, so they’re close approximations, not survey-grade measurements.
Privacy
Your location stays in your browser. If you tap “use my location”, your browser shares it with this page only. We do the math on your device and don’t store it or send it to our servers.
Searches go to Photon. When you search an address, or drop a pin and we look up its street name, the text or coordinates are sent to Photon (komoot) to find the place.
Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap, which sees which part of the map you’re viewing, like any web map.
Shared links contain coordinates. A “share” link includes the spot you dug from, so only share links to places you’re happy to show.
Visit counts. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits. It doesn’t use cookies or track you across other sites; it only tells us things like which pages are popular and roughly where visitors come from.
Anonymous usage counts. To learn which features people use, the site counts a few actions, like starting a dig, sharing a result or finishing a Daily Dig. Each count records only the kind of action, the day and hour, and for digs the country, US state or ocean at each end. It never records your exact location or address, your IP address, your browser, or anything that could identify you, and it sets no cookies. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, nothing is counted.
Advertising. This site may show ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google’s Ad Settings. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
